Hystory of Baja Sardinia

A gentle slope, a wild stretch of sand that slides into a bay, a turquoise sea surrounded by granite rocks that change color at dawn and at sunset...in this corner of paradise that faces north towards Caprera Island and west to the Gulf of Arzachena Baja Sardinia was born.

A lively place, beautiful and rich aromas that the Mistral carries from vegetation inland.

In 1961, Domenico Gentile, the eldest of the brothers holders of Panigal (the soap "Sole"), fell in love with this land.
He remained literally struck by the wild nature and the sea only for its beauty.

In that year, Mr Gentile, bought by Michele Ragnedda 90 hectares in the area of Cala Battistoni who soon after became Baja Sardinia, in the municipality of Arzachena.
The July 14, 1962 was inaugurated the first restaurant, Il Pappagallo.

From Brescia, waiting to build the first houses came the first wooden shacks turned into hotel rooms.

Subsequently were built the masonry buildings, like hotels Tuf - Tuf (now Forte Cappellini ), Mon Repos and the Club Hotel.
Thus it was born Baja Sardinia, in a corner of Gallura in the North East of Sardinia, almost opposite the island of Caprera.

In the following years many Bolognese had built villas with unique views of the sea.
The beach held in 1968 the IXth Underwater World Trophy.

Domenico Gentile has activated an induced which benefits many gallurei working in a dozen hotels, as well as ten restaurants and shops . Today in Baja Sardinia there are about 400 properties including villas and apartments.

It is fair that Baja Sardinia, Arzachena and the whole of Sardinia don’t forget it, because even though Mr. Domenico Gentile for years now is no longer in the spotlight of the news, he was the first true pioneer (a year before the Prince Karim Ismaili Aga Khan founded the Costa Smeralda) of the territory of Arzachena.
